IDEA

IdeWood is created both for the proffessional design company and for
any individual who may have a good idea for a product to be developed
and marketed. Common for both is that the process often requires a
ping-pong with a production company, and the idea behind the ideWood
website is to make that process easier.

3D VISUALIZATION

Before going to the actual work of producing prototypes, it will often save
time to first visualize the product in a drawing, or even better in 3d visualization.

Based on your idea, we can create various proposals,
before we decide to move on to the next step.

The cost of a visualization of your idea is probably lower than you think. –
Most often we will spend about a day on such a project, and our hour price
for this work is as low a USD 35/hour i.e. you can have a first professional
view of your idea for as little a USD. 280.00

PRICE POINTS

A natural basis to determine before prototypes are made,
is the actual price point that your product has to meet.

Oftentimes it is determined by the presumed obtainable sales
price for your product in the retail shops.

There are many considerations. If you have a strong brand,
and if you intend to spend a substantial amount of marketing on the product,
then this should be reflected in the retail price, but also in the margin
between your cost and your price to wholesalers.

Once we know your price points, we can then start looking at which materials
and production methods will meet your desired price level, and based on
this we make a suggestion for a prototype.

Naturally every buyer would want to buy as cheap as possible,
but when talking about wood products, a major factor is the wood price,
which depends mainly on the choice of wood, and the dimensions used
for the product. There may thus be savings if standard dimensions can be used,
and if more readily available stocks of wood can be used for the production.

CHOICE OF MATERIAL

As mentioned above, the choice of wood often depends on the
desired price level. – For relatively low priced products, it will rarely be
possible to use the most expensive woods such as Teak, Rosewood,
Mahogany or Oak, but we do have several good alternatives.

You can see a selection of the most commonly used species
of wood elsewhere on this website.

Apart from the wood species, there may be other components to the
products. Often steel combinations where we shall also consider
the quality, size, and shapes, as well as availability.

TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

For the prototype or sample making, our production people works
closely with our designers in order to make use of the most
economical raw material sizes available, and the first technical
drawing is then processed by our sample makers into the prototype.

The cost for the technical drawings is normally sholdered by us,
but we also offer to produce production drawings of your existing
products, in which case we charge USD 35/hour. –
Drawings like the above examples would normally take 2-3 hours to finalize.

If special tools are to be developed for the production,
this cost will normally be born by the customer.

PROTOTYPE PRODUCTION

Usually the process of technical drawings and prototype
making will take between 2 to 3 weeks, but it depends on the
outcome of the actual product. If we are not satisfied with
the product we shall restart the process.

Our cost of this step of the production phase is simple. –
We charge the targeted price x 2, and you pay for the courier freight.

We always make 3 samples of each prototype.
One for you, one for production, and one for our
commercial department. – Each prototype is given a reference number.

ACCEPTANCE

Once the product sample has been accepted,
this will form the basis for a contract indicating
expected shipping date, after which we shall purchase the materials.

SHIPMENT

Once the products have been shipped,
we shall send a loading advise indicating the expected date of arrival.
Our usual sales terms are FOB Philippine ports,
which means that freight and insurance is for your account.

We hope that the above points may have answered
most of your questions, but please do not hesitate to
contact us for any further questions or clarifications.

We look forward to work with you.

PACKAGING AND MARKETING SUPPORT

We often ship the products by full container loads for final
packaging at your facilities, but we can also work on
final packaging materials from our side if you wish.
Our creative staff are experienced in creating proposals
for packaging solutions, and we are able to produce
competitively in the Philippines

Examples of packaging materials developed by IdeWood.

Our Creative staff can also help with lay-outing of product brochures,
and through our sister company Philscan we likewise offer
web-based solutions for your product support. Click this link to see more:

PRODUCTION

It should be noted that for wood products there are many phases of production.
From the sometimes seasonal cutting in the forest to the sawing and thereafter
the drying, the machining and finishing, and since wood is a natural material
which may contain surprises it is important that all parties realize that
delivery dates may some times be indicative only, and marketing expenses
should therefore only be committed to, once the production is confirmed
to have started, after the raw material has been delivered dry, and the
quality of the wood has been checked before machining.

It can sometimes take up-to 6 months from the confirmation
of an order to the actual first shipment.
This depends on availability of dry quality stocks of wood.

We shall keep you updated of all the
phases of production through our Project Tracking.
